Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy describes how True.io and sites hosted on it, including purgegamers.true.io (together, the “API Client,” “we,” or “us”), collect, use, store, and share information. Your privacy is important to us. We collect personal information by lawful and fair means and keep it only as long as needed for the purposes described here, unless a longer period is required by law.

YouTube API Services

This API Client uses YouTube API Services (YouTube Data API v3) to fetch public channel, playlist, and video metadata so that groups can auto-populate topics from a configured YouTube channel or playlist. We do not use YouTube OAuth and we do not ask site users to sign in with a YouTube or Google account. We do not access private YouTube account data, private videos, or a viewer’s YouTube watch history.

Information we obtain from YouTube API Services is also subject to the Google Privacy Policy.

Information we access, collect, store, and use

Depending on how you use the site, we may access, collect, store, and use:

• Account and profile information you provide: username, email address, password (stored hashed), optional first and last name, profile photo, about text, location, website, and optional public social handles (Twitch, YouTube username, Twitter). An optional YouTube username on a profile is display text you type in; it is not a YouTube login and is not used to authorize YouTube API access.
• Content you post: topics, comments, group memberships, votes, and similar activity associated with your account.
• YouTube API Data relating to public videos used for group auto-populate: video IDs, titles, descriptions, publish times, channel IDs and titles, thumbnails, duration and other content details, view and related public statistics, and public topic classifications. We store this metadata (including in our video records) and may copy title, description, publish time, and a YouTube embed into site topics. For some podcast features we may also store audio derived from those public videos.
• Technical and device information: IP address, browser user agent, and the cookies and similar storage described below.
• Optional third-party sign-in: if you choose Facebook login, Facebook shares your email (and we may retrieve a profile photo) so we can create or link your account.

How we use, process, and share that information

We use and process this information to:

• operate accounts, keep you signed in, and secure the site (including spam and abuse controls);
• display profiles, posts, and public YouTube-backed topics on True.io sites;
• auto-populate group topics from public YouTube channel or playlist metadata returned by YouTube Data API v3;
• send account and notification email from our servers;
• understand aggregate site usage and serve advertising, as described below.

Sharing. We do not sell personal information. We share information as follows:

• Public display: profile fields you set to be public, posts you publish, and YouTube-derived topic content are visible on the site to other users and visitors.
• Google / YouTube: our servers send YouTube Data API v3 requests (using our API key, not your YouTube credentials) for public channel, playlist, and video identifiers so we can retrieve the metadata above. Google receives those requests and processes them under the Google Privacy Policy. Embedded YouTube players also communicate with YouTube when a visitor plays or loads a video.
• Google Analytics and advertising: Google Analytics and Google AdSense / DoubleClick receive usage and advertising data as described under cookies. Site operators may also configure an additional Analytics property for their subdomain.
• Google reCAPTCHA: used on signup and similar forms to distinguish people from bots; Google receives the signals that reCAPTCHA collects.
• Facebook: only if you choose to sign in with Facebook.
• Payment processors: if you make a purchase (for example via PayPal), the processor receives the payment details you submit to them.
• Service operators and legal: site staff may access account and content data to operate and moderate the service. We may disclose information if required by law or to protect the service, users, or the public.

YouTube API Data is stored on our servers and used internally to create and update auto-populated topics (and related podcast entries). We do not send that API Data to other external parties except as publicly displayed on the site or as included in API requests back to Google/YouTube.

Cookies and information on your device

We store, access, and collect information on users’ devices, and we allow certain third parties to do so, including through cookies and similar technologies:

• Session and CSRF cookies that we set so the site can remember your login and protect forms.
• localStorage (or similar browser storage) for some features, such as remembering poll choices on your device.
• Google Analytics cookies to measure how the site is used.
• Third party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user’s prior visits to this website. Google’s use of the DoubleClick cookie enables it and its partners to serve ads based on visits to this site and/or other sites on the Internet. You may opt out of the DoubleClick cookie for interest-based advertising by visiting Ads Settings. You can also opt out of a third-party vendor’s use of cookies for interest-based advertising at aboutads.info.
• YouTube embed cookies: when a page includes a YouTube player, YouTube / Google may set cookies or use similar technology on your device.
• reCAPTCHA: Google may set cookies or collect device signals when a captcha is shown.

Your choices

You can update most profile fields in your account settings, request account closure by contacting us, and control cookies through your browser. Advertising opt-out links are listed above. Because we do not connect your True.io account to YouTube via OAuth, there is no YouTube-account permission to revoke for this API Client.
